Bryce has all sorts of great terrain gen features.īut what if you need a truly huge chunk of highly configurable terrain scattered with mountains, lakes, deserts and jungle, wrought with erosion from the weather and the sun, and you need it in a hurry? That's where Large 3D Terrain generator (or 元DT, from Bundysoft) shines! This is one truly cool application which even runs on Linux - and if you buy the Pro version for $40 (Indie) or $150 (commercial), you get full multi-core support too. Somewhere in the mid-range is Bryce, a nice $99.00 package from Daz3d. There's your super high-end like E-On Software's Vue Infinite, which runs about $900 but offers the most advanced sky, terrain and vegetation creation tools. There's the terrain heightmap which can be created in Gimp or Photoshop and then imported into your favorite modeling package, like Blender or 3D Studio Max. When it comes to terrain generation, there's all sorts of ways to accomplish creating the mesh and texture you're looking for.
